By the time the 1983-84 season came (Wayne Gretzky’s 5th season in the NHL) there weren’t many firsts left for Wayne Gretzky. The 1983-84 season was historic for Gretzky not because of the 5th Hart Trophy or the 4th Art Ross Trophy or even the 3rd Ted Lindsay Award he would win, but it was historic in the fact that in his 5th season playing in the NHL he would win his 1st Stanley Cup trophy. Gretzky had a season that would be mind blowing on normal standards but was impressive even on his standards. The regular season saw Gretzky tally 87 goals and 118 assists, his 205 points were 79 more points than the second highest point scorer that season, his teammate Paul Coffey. In the playoffs Gretzky was just as good leading the playoffs in points (35), assists (22), goals created (13.3), and tied atop with teammates Paul Coffey and Charlie Huddy with a plus/minus rating of +18.
