The 1987 Topps set consists of 396 standard-size cards. Card fronts have the team and player name in banners at the top above the player photo. These banners are in the colors of the player's team. The backs have highlights and statistics within an outline of the NFL shield. To the left is biographical information. Subsets include Record Breakers (2-8) and league leaders (227-231). The set numbering is ordered by teams. Team cards feature an action photo on the front with the team's statistical leaders and week-by-week game results from the previous season on back. The copyright line on the back also includes a letter (A, B, C, or D) to indicate which sheet the card was cut from. Note that each card in the set was produced on two different sheets. This resulted in each card including one of two different letter designations on the back, thus creating a variation on each card. Rookie Cards include Bill Brooks, Keith Byars, Randall Cunningham, Kenneth Davis, Jim Everett, Doug Flutie, Ernest Givins, Charles Haley, Sean Jones, Eric Martin and Jim Kelly. Kelly and Flutie previously appeared in a USFL set.
